What Makes Breguet Special?
Breguet is a traditional Swiss luxury watchmaker with a long history of innovating the arts and mechanics of time. Not many watchmaking businesses have survived as long as Breguet has, and certainly, not many firms have held such a high standard of quality and innovation.
History of Breguet
Breguet’s history dates from 1775, when the company was founded by Abraham-Louis Breguet. The Swiss watchmaker became an adept of the craft under the tutelage of Ferdinand Berthoud and Jean-Antoine Lépine. After 10 years of rigorous study, he set up his own watchmaking workshop at the 51 Quai de l'Horloge, Île de la Cité in Paris. He married the daughter of a prosperous French bourgeois, and the dowry provided the economic backing to open his own watchmaking business. Many members of the royalty were fascinated by his craft. He even developed a custom masterpiece for Marie Antoinette, which contained every known watch complication of that time. Abraham-Louis Breguet is responsible for the coveted tourbillon, a staple in luxury watches. The first Breguet watch produced was delivered in 1810. The company changed hands many times over the coming centuries until 1999, when it was acquired by the Swatch Group.
Rarity & Exclusivity of Breguet
Breguet watches are often easy to recognize. Their classic timepieces feature coin-edged cases, guilloche dials, and the Breguet Hands, which refer to their well-known blue hands. One thing is sure - Breguet’s luxurious watches have adorned many prominent figures of history, and that spirit becomes an emblem for the prospective wearer.
