By 1961, the Corvette had become a full circle sports car after having graduated from its six-cylinder GT roots since its launch in 1953. The 283 cubic inch V8 was available with a twin four-barrel carburetor intake. This "Dual Quad" setup increased power output to 270 hp and would only be featured on 2,827 1961 Corvettes. Independent front suspension kept handling in check and allowed the Corvette to run in circles with some of the finest marques from Europe on both the road and the track. The styling was purely American, with loads of chrome and classic roadster lines keeping with the Corvette's sporty appearance. It was the last of the first generation Corvettes to feature two-tone paint with contrasting coves, and it is no wonder why the 1961 model is still so highly prized by collectors and enthusiasts across the globe.
