### **A rare pair of Kakiemon porcelain cockbirds**

**Late 17th century, Genroko period, Japan**

**Height: 28cm, 11.02inches**

Each is standing upon rockwork bases displaying their handsome plumage, the details moulded and brilliantly decorated in iron red, blue, green, yellow and black enamels, the irregularly shaped bases in washed iron oxide.

As far as we are aware there are no other cockbirds published of this model.

**Similar Examples**

The cockbird illustrated in Porcelain for Palaces figure 169, from the Burghley house collection, is closely related to the blanc de chine model.
