### **A two tiered kobako with fitted boxes**


**Meiji period, late 19th century, Japan**

**Width: 14.5 cm, 5.7 inches**

Of rectangular form with indented corners, the box is decorated in gold, red and silver hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirigane and silver inlay on a nashiji ground. The scene depicts a fishing village under the moon, the interior tray with wild geese on a river bank, two fitted boxes with birds amongst willow trees, hirame interior, the rims in silver metal.
