DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century American rare and magnificent six piece tea service, comprising a kettle, coffee pot, teapot, covered sugar bowl, waist bowl, covered cream jug, each piece on four lion paw feet, plain can shaped body applied with large acanthus leaves, boarders and fruit finials.

The set is exceptionally heavy and impressive, designed with a very rare acanthus pattern by Tiffany & Co (see Magnificent Tiffany Silver, John Loring, page142), a pair of candelabra made in the same style, commissioned by the Vanderbilts, heirs to the central American railroad fortune. Hallmarked "Sterling Silver" (925-1000 standard), pattern 6074 year 1880 and 6238 year 1881, all bearing the Maker's mark "TIFFANY & CO", order number 2429 and 5242.
