The light in this painting was a great gift. The towers of the main buildings on The Bund behave like willing servants when they catch the last rays of the descending sun. They make the light material, almost as if you could touch it. The result is a heroic impression, emphasising the confident architectural constructions. The grand finale of a great day. It always reminds me of the clear days in April 1972 that I spent at the seaside in Flanders.
