Cocktails & Canapés Thursday 15th October, 6-9pm Artist Talk 6.30pm The Cat Street Gallery is thrilled to present Barbara Wildenboer's solo show 'Something Rather Than Nothing'. Wildenboer was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1973. Having completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts from UNISA in 2003 and a BA with majors in English literature and Psychology at the University of Pretoria in 1996. Wildenboer then went on to obtain a Masters in Fine Art from the Michaelis School of Art at the University of Cape Town in 2008. She has participated in several group exhibitions and residencies both nationally and internationally, with her 8th and most recent solo exhibition 'The Lotus Eaters' currently touring South Africa. Barbara Wildenboer works primarily with paper and photo-construction, but also with that of the altered book. She draws from natural history, contemporary environmental philosophy and eco-psychology to reflect on the relationship of humans to their environment. The title of this exhibition draws from the ideas put forth by numerous philosophers ranging from the early Classical Greek to contemporary philosophers, all of whom questioned the existence of ourselves and the worlds that we inhabit. The work reinterprets a variety of creation myths that tell individual stories of how the world came into existence.
