Datsun - Fairlady - 1967

Repainted in bright red, this Datsun still looks great with a clear gloss and a cheerful look, inviting you to get behind the wheel. The look is known, perhaps because different styling elements are borrowed from some of the great cars from history and they all work pretty good here. The embellishment on the bonnet, the headlights and the vestigial tail fins on rounded corners give the small Datsun a much more substantial appearance. The body underneath the beautifully polished red paint is in a very good condition. And just like so many 2-seaters, this one has probably spent its life more as a toy than as daily transport. Chrome bumpers, the delicate grille and the stainless steel strip along the sides give it a luxurious look, and we particularly love the fold that runs through the centre of the cabin door. You will also see an accessory-back-up light that hangs under the rear bumper, as well as a locking fuel cap.Black upholstery matches well with the bright red paint and the interior was refreshed as needed during the past 50 years. 1960s style bucket seats with pleated upholstery are actually pretty good to keep you seated while driving with a punch, and when you sit behind the wheel the large round instruments and the low driving position have a real British feel. The three-spoke steering wheel is 1960s skinny and has a period-perfect look with 3 aluminium spokes. All gauges are functional, but unfortunately the original radio has long disappeared, replaced by a Clarion AM/FM unit that actually looks pretty good and fits well in the original slot. The stocky shifter feels great, and the pedals are positioned well for switching/shifting and serve to truly have fun behind the wheel. Black carpets show a bit of their age, but the dashboard upholstery is in a fairly good condition, with the exception of a few wrinkles that are probably inevitable for a car that experiences a lot of sun. The boot is well shaped and fairly spacious, even with a spare wheel. During bad weather there is a newer black convertible top that is reasonably easy to put up and down. The car can be viewed and picked up in Knokke, the Netherlands.
