EARLY 18TH CENTURY SWEDISH MIRROR

Magnificent early 18th century Swedish mirror, well carved gilt wood decoration probably from the Burchardt Precht workshops.

Burchardt Precht was a sculpture, educated in Hamburg, Germany. in 1674 Burchardt Precht moved from Sweden where he worked during the years 1669- 1676 and 1682- 1687. During the last period he worked for the Swedish Royal Family. Apart from crating sculptures for houses and churches Precht made Mirrors and Furniture. His early Mirrors, like this one was what was called Golden Baroque, where the significant symbols were heavily carved wood decorated with acanthus leaves, flowers and puttis.
