Rearngsak Boonyavanishkul (Born 1961), a contemporary super-realistic painter. He has worked in various countries in Southeast Asia (including Bali) and now residues in Singapore and Thailand.
During his early artistic years, Rearngsak was highly influenced by the Modernism movement of the West. After moving to SIngapore, he embraced Hyper-realism with a strong religious theme running through his artworks.
Rearngsak's dancers, a favourite subject of his, all appear like snapshot images. His artful paintings often take his viewers into another realm of mysticism; the women protrayed are a representation of purity and tradition. With narratives in play, the depiction of temples or private houses as background suggests a fleeting moment being captured and documented. He paints his subjects frozen as if unaware that they are being scrutinised.
In the neo-traditional paintings where Rearngsak paints Balinese and Thai dancers, his Thai identity is reflected in the minute details like costumes and architecture. The photographic nature of Rearngsak's works have become a favourite amongst ardent collectors all over the world. Inspired by tradition, philosophy and history of Thai and Balinese cultures, Rearngsak is able to depict the women with historical and cultureal accuracy. He paints his subjects frozen as if unaware, going through an elaborate prepartion of a ceremonial dance; each of the dancers is immersed into her own role, fully focused on the spiritual process. His paintings celebrates the intricacy and accuracy of details, showing a perfection that transcends a subtle, timeless beauty."
