Gilbert Proesch and George Passmore met in 1967 at St Martin's School of Art. At a time when sculpture was dominant at the school Gilbert and George saw the medium as elitist and poor at reaching beyond an art context. In response they made themselves into living sculpture, sacrificing separate identity and subverting the very notion of creativity.

Gilbert & George first made their 'photo-pieces' in 1971, the aesthetic language of these pieces remains as their dominant form of expression. The subject matter of their work has gradually shifted in its emphasis of their personal experiences to concentrate on the realities of urban living and the constructs of this reality.

Each print has been individually signed and numbered.
