This impressive bronze sculpture of a naked man with horn is made by the French sculptor Léon Auguste Perrey (1841 - 1900) Signed and dated on the base: “A Perrey SCeur 1868” and marked “C.Matifat Fondeur” Charles Stanislas Matifat (1820 – after 1875) was one of the most famous foundrymen of (monumental) sculptures in Paris in the middle of the 19th century The sculpture is 212 cm high and the base has a diameter of 57 cmThis bronze sculpture weighs approximately 80 to 100 kg The French sculptor Léon Auguste Perrey (Parijs 1841 - 1900) in his youth was trained by his father, the sculptor Aimé Napoléon Perrey At the age of eighteen he became a pupil of François Jouffroy at the Ecole des Beaux-arts In 1866 he debuts at the famous Salon in Parijs with 'le Joueur de toupie', a work that is purchased by the French State He carried out assignments for the new Louvre, the Palais du Trocadéro and the City Hall of Paris (Industry), the Cathedral of Vannes, the Saint Eustache Church (Sainte Geneviève), the Saint Michel Church in Lille (Saint-Raphël), the castle of Pierrefonds (the sculpture) and the monuments for Mme Boucicaut (Verjux) and Pope Calixte II (Quingey)Perrey won a medal at the Salons of 1866 and 1867 and a bronze medal at the World Exhibition of 1889 (Ref. wikiphidias.fr and e-monumen.net)
