**Model History**

Designed at Vignale, the Maserati Indy is a 2-door 4-seater Grand Tourer produced by Maserati from 1969 to 1975. The car was introduced at the Torino Motor Show in 1968 as being a prototype based on a Maserati 4.2 Litre chassis, both Ghia and Vignale showed their potential replacement for the ageing Maserati Sebring and first generation Quatroporte. Vignale's prototype was preferred over the Ghia, and the production model was launched in 1969 with a 4.2 Litre V8 engine. A year later a 4.7 Litre V8 Indy 4700 was offered. This engine produced 290hp, which was a strong 30hp improvement over the 4200 engine. Apart from the engine upgrade, some interior updates were introduced in 1970, including retractable headrests and a new dashboard. In 1972 Maserati added a new 4.9 Litre engine to their range. A ZF 5-speed gearbox was standard, a 3-speed Borg Warner automatic gearbox was available.

The Maserati Indy was an alternative to the 2-seater Ghibli offering room for four people. During the late 1960's, high performance 2+2 automobiles were quite popular. Think of cars like the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2, Lamborghini Espada and of course the Maserati Indy.

This model was named Indy in honor of Maserati's two victories at the Indy 500 in 1939 and 1940. Wilbur Shaw's win in 1939 was the first victory at the Indy 500 by a foreign car since Peugeot in 1916. Wilbur Shaw won both years in a Maserati 8CTF.

**Vehicle History**

The car shown here is a beautiful example of a rare Maserati Indy 4700 5-speed ZF manual from 1973. In total 1104 Indy's were produced, this car is one of just 364 Maserati Indy's fitted with the powerful 4.7 Litre V8 engine.

This car was ground up restored and finished in 2017. It has been used for a few thousand running in kilometers. The engine has been rebuilt as well as the gearbox, the suspension, the brakes, the exhaust system, the electrics. The leather shows a nice patina. Pictures and records of the restoration accompany the car.

It has a working airconditioning. It has Dutch registration and APK (like MOT/CT/TUV).

Seeing an Indy on the road is rather spectacular and seeing one so pretty as this one which can really be used as a Gran Tourismo for fast long distance driving is rather remarkable.
