Molded Plywood LCM Chair

US$719.00

The iconic LCM (Low Side Chair) and its companion the DCM (Dining Chair Metal), exemplify the wonders of molded plywood, a revolutionary material developed by husband-and-wife design team Charles and Ray Eames. What began as an experiment in the couple's apartment using what they called the "Kazam! Machine" became a hallmark of the Eames' prolific careers and propelled the use of the latest technology and manufacturing techniques in mid-century modern industrial design.

Since capturing the world's attention by winning top honors in MoMA's 1940 competition "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" (in collaboration with Eero Saarinen), more than 100 examples of the Eames' work have figured large in the Museum's collection and subsequent exhibitions, including Designing Modern Women.

The LCM comfortably cradles the human body thanks to its low profile and ergonomic compound curves rendered in form-hugging molded-plywood. The wooden frame sits on a black steel frame with rubber shock mounts in between. This landmark of modern design was reissued in 1994 by Herman Miller®.
