**The artist: Joseph Rodriguez**

Joseph Rodriguez, the acclaimed documentary photographer from New York is known for his intimate and accurate portrayal of people who live on the edge of society. A passion for photography saved Rodriguez from a life of theft and drug dealing. His award-winning photos are published regularly in well-known newspapers and magazines such as _The New York Times_, _Der Spiegel,_ and _National Geographic_. In 2013, Rodriguez's work was shown in a major retrospective in Germany by Hardhitta Gallery. Recently, his works were part of the exhibition Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington.
