Title: Looking for my roots- 2014 Description: Alcohol ink, acrylic paint, collage, lace and mixed medias on mineral canvas* Dimensions: 18X 24 inches - 41X 61cm * Mineral canvas called *Terraskin® paper is made from stone and does not contain any fibrous material that can absorb any liquid medium such as water or ink, such as with regular paper. The only exception is the application of alcohol ink, which burns the paper’s surface. It is a non-toxic and environment friendly paper that does not contain any acids or whitening solvents. STATEMENT My artistic work come from the intimity and the subjective relationship tied to the notion of identity and abandonment particularly present for adopted child. Precisely, I am interested in producing images that reveal mother-child sentiment. I’m also interested in the overall concepts of transformation and metamorphosis. More precisely, I find myself fascinated by the unfolding of the path of life of elements from a body’s embryonic state through birth and their abilities to change The interaction and transformation with nature’s natural life force that which transcends all logic, pushes me to create an imaginary universe, a space where the multiplicity of motion acts like a renewed mantra - it grows into a spiritual quest and absolute introspection and sets me on a journey of authenticity and truth. In constant search of textures to nourish my work, I take pictures and gather materials to return to the studio. All matter is sought as stimuli to glean visual cues and serve as inspiration. Tree bark, paper, metals, stone, wood and fabric are but some of my favorite elements. I envision the canvas as a broad surface rather than simply a surface hosting a predominating image. That which interests me is the plane relief of a flat surface presented from varying angles. The surface becomes a pretext for my spontaneous and intuitive experiments with matter. From my collection of various mediums of paint and molding paste, regularly but not systematically positioned, I finish by creating a denuded pictorial relief from which, the remainder of my work emanates. This stage, for me, represents the structural framework of the painting. It is from these beginnings, and the hues & colors from a preselected palette, that I stage a visual and chromatic presentation, the brush dancing at will over the surface. I let myself go, freely and instinctively stroking the canvas, allowing shapes, lines and forms to shape random recognizable images. I remain in a state of awareness to that which emanates from my sub-consciousness; I am the visual direction that embodies me through the gathering and juxtapositions of matter. In my painting a shape is gradually fashioned one brush stroke spawned from the previous one. It is happenstance guiding my works to take their form.
