The sublime meets the necessary. Designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1957, the PK 80 daybed illustrates the designer's method of refining historical models and distilling them to their essence, while balancing construction and choice of materials. The inspiration for the daybed, upholstered in full-grain oxhide and supported by a satin-brushed stainless steel frame, came from Bauhaus designs, which in turn, were inspired by ancient Roman couches.

This daybed is upholstered in Fritz Hansen's Elegance leather. This European oxhide has a natural look and is soft and pleasant to the touch. Elegance is aniline leather, and is chrome-tanned and subsequently vegetable-tanned to impart greater firmness. The leather is full grain, which means that its natural surface structure has been preserved and all natural markings are visible. Natural markings are the hallmarks of the animal's active life and give the piece of furniture a unique character. Elegance leather varies in colour from hide to hide and acquires a beautiful, lighter patina with use and exposure to sunlight.
