Rare stipo Renaissance solid walnut wood - Italy (southern) - Aversa - ca. 1700

US$9,809.23

Rare and important Neo-Renaissance cabinet in ebonised walnut, cm 252 x 170 x 60 depth. This is a state piece of furniture embellished with many carvings of the highest sculptural level. On a moderate setting is built a jutting front at the centre of an element like a niche, decorated by two tapered columns with Corinthian capitals that enclose a portal surmounted by a curved gable. On the rear sides of the front there are several drawers. The central door has overlapping square panels, each one with twelve carved modular frames. This piece of furniture was often used as a container of important documents in a studio of a noble house or as an archive in a notary’s office. Certainly it comes from Southern Italy and was made in the Viceregal period. The item is located in Aversa, province of Caserta (Italy). If the item is sold in Italy, the shipping costs will be paid by the seller. For the shipping abroad, the costs will be at buyer’s expense, to be agreed directly with the seller. The item will be sent no later than three days after the payment notification. This piece of furniture needs a restoration only externally, because the wood is intact and healthy. Anti-woodworm treatment already performed in a gas chamber. There are some detached pieces, but they were recovered and kept inside the cabinet, so they can be fixed during the restoration.
