Born in 1963, a native of Chinaês Hebei province, Zhang Lin Hai started his journey as an artist after graduating with a degree in engraving from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Art in 1990. After winning multiple awards as an acclaimed artist in this discipline, Zhang moved on to his true calling which is oil painting, garnering the admiration of international collectors and museums.
Evoking a sense of nostalgia of his childhood in the improvised countryside, Zhangês works are visual representations of his emotions and memories expressed through his surrealist paintings that involve displacement of his subjects in an alternate reality.
Along with a dark and sombre palette in compliment to the grim reality where his subjects exist, Zhangês works exude a melancholic mood of despair and helplessness that mirrors the artist temperament. Despite the sense of gloom in his paintings, Zhang still harbours a sense of optimism whereby hope prevails through a ray of light that permeate through the darkness as it veiled the subject in a glimmer of warm radiance.
