**About The Artist**

Prager's highly staged, theatrical, and cinematic images are inspired by a wide range of references and influences, including street photography, classic Hollywood cinema and experimental films. This new series of photographs draw influence from early Surrealist photographers, particularly those exploring and distorting the body in their images such as Man Ray, Maurice Tabard and Hans Bellmer.

Whereas the early Surrealists used advances in camera technology, film developing and printing to achieve their disorienting images, Prager used a decidedly more analog technique to stage these photographs. She had each actor stand behind and protrude their head or limbs through a simple backdrop. This simple construction is not hidden in the images, however in some cases the artist employed computer technology to manipulate the composition and placement of each part to create seamless results. Using these two techniques further calls into question what is real and artificial.

Prager's Untitled (Parts) series, which first appeared in a Garage Magazine editorial spread, are staged and constructed photographs featuring actress Julia Garner along with other characters chosen by the artist. Disembodied heads and limbs protrude at various angles from a flesh toned background. Dissociated from the body, these human parts take on a static or prop like quality, creating a hybrid of fiction and reality intrinsic in all of Prager's work.
