The series _Tate Modern: Ten Artists, Ten Images_ was commissioned to celebrate the opening of Tate Modern in May 2000. Ten prominent contemporary artists working with photography were invited to create an artwork inspired by and in response to the Bankside building, its development and its surroundings. The resulting pictures chart different aspects of the site's development from power station to museum of modern art. Untitled (00.1), 2000 is a two-part image comprising photographs taken from contrasting viewpoints through the wall of windows under the gallery's roof.
Uta Barth is a German photographer who currently lives in Los Angeles, California. Barth's abstract, painterly images use cropping, focus and the changeable nature of passing moments to guide how we perceive her work. Barth emphasises these elements to draw attention to characteristics and limitations of the human eye.
