The picture of the Bund in Shanghai triggered my inspiration. It reminded me of the promising, echoing light I saw near the seaside in 1972. Overwhelming and powerful, it is reflected by the windows, rooftops, facades, and particularly, the waterfront. The architecture reveals a journey through time. Modern skyscrapers form the background to old iconic buildings like the 19th century lighthouse and foreign offices.
