An Early George III Silver Dish Cross, London 1766 by Samuel Herbert

US$2,223.00

An early George III articulated silver dish cross, London 1766. The raised central bulbous spirit burner is topped with a lid decorated with a gadroon border. Rotating cross-section arms and adjustable cast shell decorated dish holders and feet.

Hallmarked for London 1766 by Herbert & Co. The body, feet and arms are all identically hallmarked.

Overall in very good condition, with no splits dents or repairs. Of a thick gauge of silver with a lovely lustre.

Mechanical dish crosses of this age are quite scarce as few have survived the usage over the years. This piece is still in very good functioning order and a very practical addition to the modern dining table.
