DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century exceptionally rare Chinese solid silver teapot, of traditional round form, the body finely engraved in traditional Chinese style, suggesting this teapot was made for the Chinese market. The body engraved with round panels depicting various birds and fish in on floral matted backgrounds, the unusual split handle imitating bamboo, the removable lid set with a peach finial and the spout with a hedged cover. The piece is very unusual, fine and exceptionally crisp. The teapot is made of heavy gauge silver and the attention to detail and design is simply outstanding.
The base is Hallmarked Chinese silver (tested is 900+ standard), Maker San Yang He (active 1880-1940, Beijing). This is a rare mark to find buy this silversmith of extraordinary skill. The level of craftsmanship and the fact this was a silversmith working in Beijing indicates this could well have been a master silversmith originally from the Imperial workshops. For more information please see A. Von Ferscht, Chinese Export Silver 1785-1940, 4th edition 2015).
