### DESCRIPTION

Antique late-19th Century Chinese solid silver decorative dragon bowl, of round form with a deeded rim, plain ground applied, depicting birds flying and perched on blossoming cherry trees, supported by three mythical dragons. The bowl is particularly large, heavy and very well crafted, by one of the most rare and outstanding Chinese silversmiths & retailers.

The base hallmarked, with Chinese character marks and retailers mark for Luen Wo (active 1880-1940, 42 Nanking rd), this prolific retailer & silversmith from Shanghai, worked mainly in the traditional style but is also recorded as having made Peranakan - style traditional silver items from 1880 onwards.
