### DESCRIPTION

Antique late-19th Century Victorian Cellini pattern solid silver large serving tray, of oval form the pierced border, featuring a frieze of masks, lions, cornucopia and fruiting vines in the classical Cellini revival taste, within a laurel rim and with realistically modelled handles cast as serpents, the centre hand engraved with spread eagles, swag and scrolling foliage. The pattern is called in honor of Benvenuto Cellini, the sculptor and goldsmith of the 16th Century considered by many as the greatest of all time. Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1897 (k), Maker JNM (John Newton Mappin), Retailed by Mappin & Webb.
