DESCRIPTION

Antique early-20th Century Burmese solid silver betel box, highly-decorative, repousse' decorated in high relief depicting different traditional scenes from the Burmese mythology, showing very detailed figures set against a chiselled matted background in landscapes. Around the top chased with scrolling foliage, the base decorated with stylized betel leaves, mounted with a lid in similar style and mounted with a round finial. The quality of the box is simply outstanding and very crisp, the figures and proportions are much smaller than usual, the quality of workmanship is possibly the best I have ever seen in Burmese silver, its comparable to the best silversmiths active at the time.
