This is an antique lithograph C 1860, by Leon Noel 'The Empress Eugénie Surrounded by her Ladies in Waiting' after the famous original by Franz Winterhalter. Taking its inspiration from 18th-century bucolic scenes, this monumental composition sets the sovereign and her entourage against the backdrop of a shady clearing in a forest. This lithograph was beautifully hand coloured. The print is presented in a beautiful gilded frame which compliments the print perfectly. Alphonse Leon Noel (1804 – 1884) was a French painter, draftsman & lithographer born in Paris. He is a student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the workshops of Antoine-Jean Gros and Louis Hersent. Throughout his lifetime he executed more than six hundred portraits.
