Comtoise with sun-shaped casting - Period 1795–99

US$859.43

Beautiful 18th century comtoise with a convex dial and a sun-head casting.Clock strikes a bell every half and full hour, with repetition on full hours. The half hours are struck by means of forced strike of the running mechanism, the whole hours are struck by a so-called counting striking mechanism. The dial is signed "Malfroy à Chambery".The clock has flat doors and back plate, wooden winding spools, lead weights, pear-shaped pendulum and beautiful, slender, hand-sawed brass hands. The clock was cleaned entirely, serviced and adjusted. In addition, the clock was also fitted with new red ropes, old weights and an old pendulum wire with weight. The original dial was not restored, and it has minor damage in two places, which are not disturbing, and provide a good indication of the age of this clock. This clock runs and strikes as it should! This clock, with this casting, with sun, openworked medallion with five-point star and angels on both sides, can be dated exactly, because these were only made during the "Directoire" era in France. The Directoire (also called French Directory in English) was the five-member committee that governed France during a part of the French Revolution, from 1795 to 1799. The term is also used for the period in French history during which the Directoire governed the country. The clock comes complete with bracket and winding key. Measurements of clock caseHeight: 25 cmWidth: 24 cmDepth: 14.5 cm.Height including casting: 37 cm.Length of the pendulum: 134 cmThe photos are part of the description. This clock can be shipped, well-packaged and by insured post, but pick-up in Almelo or Albergen, the Netherlands, is preferred.Outside of the EU, the clock can only be shipped registered and insured up to €500. Therefore it will be shipped in two packages to buyers outside the EU.
