FINE 19TH CENTURY PRISONER OF WAR MODEL

Fine 19th century prisoner of war model of a frigate Pomone, with forty four guns.
c. 1820
H M Frigate Pomome had 44 guns. Taken in 1794 by Sir J B Warren then becoming the flagship of his frigate squadron cruising near Cape Finisterre to protect trade, she took part in the capture or sinking of 13 enemy ships 1795-7, notably Jean Bart (26) Andromaque (36) and Calliope (36). Under different Commanders she captured Cheri (26) in the Bay of Biscay, 1798. The Pomone was sold circa 1803.
