Little is known of the early and personal life of one of Irelands most renowned cabinet making firms, Robert Strahan & Co. It is known that on Wednesday 4th July 1866 an advert appeared in ˜The Freemans Journal™ from the Society of Operative Cabinetmakers of the City of Dublin who presented an address of condolence on the melancholy death of Mr. A. Strahan, brother of Robert Strahan. It is noted that Robert Strahan was the senior partner in the firm. Mr. A. Strahan was killed in a fire at premises on Westmoreland Street, Dublin.
