James II Period Carved Walnut and Ebonized Open Arm Chair

US$11,381.10

An extremely rare, fine and important example of a James II period carved walnut and ebonised open arm chair. A chair with similar graduated 'C' scroll cresting is illustrated in the Dictionary of English Furniture, 2nd Edition by Ralph Edwards, page 246, plate 59, formerly at Quenby Hall, Leicestershire. Another chair with greater similarity in the form of the legs and arm supports is illustrated in full page colour facing page 248, plate P1IX. This chair was formerly at Kimbolton and registered in an inventory of 1683 when the fourth Earl of Manchester succeeded his father.
