DESCRIPTIONAntique 20th Century very rare French Art Deco Van Cleef & Arpels 18k gold & enamel handbag pin watch. The design is typical of the Art Deco era and the watch face is covered by a clever louvered mechanism - when closed, you can't tell that it is a watch. Called "Shutter", inspired by a limousine radiator. Van Cleef originally made these as clasps for a very special handbags, but later examples are also known to have been used as brooches. It is numbered, and illustrated in Van Cleef & Arpels, by Sylvie Raulet, p312. Hallmarked French gold (eagle's head for 750 standard), stamped V.C & A, and inventory number 43012.
