US$1,673.69 This is a beautifully crafted antique satinwood and marquetry chest of drawers, circa 1890 in date. This antique chest is made from the finest quality satinwood with fabulous marquetry of flowers, ribbons, swags, baskets and elegant cross banded decoration. It has a capacious oak lined drawer, has it's original beautiful brass handles and stands on tapering Sheraton style legs that terminate in their original brass castors. There is no mistaking its unique design and superb quality, which is certain to attract attention and make it a talking point in your bedroom or reception. This piece is truly unique and is guaranteed to bring beauty and charm to your home for many years to come. It comes from two tropical trees of the family Rutaceae (rue family). East Indian or Ceylon satinwood is the yellowish or dark-brown heartwood of Chloroxylon swietenia. The lustrous, fine-grained, usually figured wood is used for furniture, cabinetwork, veneers, and backs of brushes. West Indian satinwood, sometimes called yellow wood, is considered superior. It is the golden yellow, lustrous, even-grained wood found in the Florida Keys and the West Indies. It has long been valued for furniture. It is also used for musical instruments, veneers, and other purposes. Satinwood is classified in the division Magnoliophyta, class Magnoliopsida, order Sapindales, family Rutaceae.
