The elaborately staged and often erotically charged scenes of Joel-Peter Witkin explore grand themes of religion, sex, and mortality. This work, which appeared in his 1993 book_Twelve Photographs_, is a prime example of Witkin's photographic tableaux. Made in Mexico City, it is a darkly fantastical, south-of-the-border take on Georges Seurat's 1888 painting_Les Poseuses_. The large size of this print makes it quite rare.
