'We are all fuzzy robots' 2011 is indicative of Rae's vividly coloured, abstract style of painting. Rae's work creates complexity with layers of expressive painterly marks alongside graphic signs and symbols. The calm and stillness of these graphic elements plays off the surrounding painterly energy, this strong contrasting juxtaposition is frequently characterised by her works.

In 1991 Rae participated in Damien Hirst's Freeze exhibition in London's Docklands and was shortlisted for the Turner Prize. Rae has exhibited extensively in museums and galleries internationally, and her work is held in prestigious public and private collections worldwide. Rae was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 2002, and appointed a Tate Artist Trustee between 2005 and 2009. She lives and works in London.

Fiona Rae was born in Hong Kong in 1963 and completed a BA Hons Fine Art degree at Goldsmiths College in 1987.
