Not Just a Flower Girl I

US$80.79

This photograph comes from the series entitled "Not Just A Flower Girl" signed by Caleb and Gladys. In a minimal presentation solely consisting of a black backdrop, the model holding or wearing flowers represents the triumph of beauty over obscurity. Particular attention has been paid to the elegance of her pose and the intensity of her gaze. Wearing only flowers, the woman is represented here as Flora, the goddess of fertility and wild flowers. This kind of mythological subject has been interpreted many times throughout art history and particularly in Renaissance painting. One of the most beautiful examples is the illustrious "Primavera" by Sandro Botticelli, whose iconography has inspired many artists and that has been widely reproduced in fashion photography. Here, Caleb and Gladys propose their own personal, contemporary and innovative version, partially reviving and partially reworking other works based on the same theme, such as those of the famous photographers Cecil Beaton or Ghislain Dussart.

**The artist: Caleb & Gladys**

A couple in life and work, Caleb & Gladys have pursued a career in fashion photography, creating numerous advertising campaigns for big name designers, in association with popular specialised magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, L'Officiel, ELLE, Tatler and Vogue Italy. Based between New York and Singapore, this photographer duo presents a portfolio enriched with many personal works bearing witness to their prolific activity, essentially concerning the creation of images developed on the border between surrealism and drama. Along with their commercial success, they have also received many photography prizes: Caleb & Gladys notably obtained first place at the International Photography Awards, in the field of fashion advertising photography, as well as Professional Photographer of the Year UK, in the category of studio shooting in 2013, but also at the Harper's Bazaar x ION Fashion Photography Awards in 2012.
