In this painting I highlight the moment when artificial light becomes more important as the twilight loses its grip. The composition is powerful. Although there’s little open space in the painting, it’s actually very spatial because of the mirror-like reflections on the left and the open stairway to the MTR. In fact, three levels of perspective are represented: aerial, street and underground. As in every painting, the specific order of elements gives the work its unique expression. The colour tones move between two poles from burnt umber and violet.
