Andras Nemes’ interest in photography emerged with the advent of digital and its many possibilities in terms of image treatment. Her photographs are taken with a Nikon D3100 and reworked with the aid of image creation and touch-up software. She thus makes use of the technical plurality of digital photography in order to create montages representing fantastic or lunar landscapes, sometimes depicting animals. In nature, far from any kind of civilisation, weird and whimsical protagonists appear to be living on the margins of society and, above all, outside of the physical reality of the world. Forms suddenly emerge, like apparitions within an environment charged with mystery. The artist demonstrates that beyond its strictly mimetic function, photography can also be a representational tool for a playful fantasy world in which fiction and reality merge. She invites us to relive our childhood, to dream and experience the world poetically.

**The artist: Sarolta Bán**

Sarolta Ban, born in Budapest in 1982, started her career as a jewellery designer. She discovered digital photography with its endless post-production opportunities for manipulation. In reference to her work method, she explains: ‘I don’t think I am a photographer, I just like creating images.’ The time required to produce a final work varies between several hours and several days. For this artist, who is as interested in representation as in the technique to achieve it, it is not unusual to use up to a hundred or so layers for a single photograph.
