The young photographer Herod Becen mainly associates his art with literature. He produced three marine views of the West Atlantic after reading Marguerite Duras? short novel L?Amour (1972). The writer narrates the adventures of three characters who are walking on a deserted beach while looking at the sea, and who constantly retrace their steps, without every tiring of the beauty of nature. Besides his studies, the photographer is also sensitive to poetry and mainly to the short verses of Charles Baudelaire. Working with a medium-format camera or a view camera, he favours formats derived from easel painting and not those of traditional reporting. His images are pure and simple and thus present landscapes full of emotion and authenticity.

**The artist: Herod Becen**

Herod Becen was born in France around thirty years ago. Born in Rennes and passionate about Brittany, he moved to Saint-Pabu in the Finistère region. A graduate in literature, he taught for several years at the Université de Bretagne Occidentale before becoming a professional photographer and travelling all over the world. Seeking sites that he considers to be ?spaces of energy?, he roams the wildest forests and coastlines in search of timeless atmospheres. He contemplates the horizon from his studio located in an inlet and prepares his future series by anticipating each of his creations and sometimes even their framings. Herod Becen practises yoga every day and compares his spiritual practice to his vision of photography, which he hopes to shed of any superfluous aesthetics, considering that the more beautiful something is, the more simple it should be.
