Arad studied at the Jerusalem Art Academy from 1971 until 1973 and followed this with his enrolment in 1974, at the Architectural Association in London alongside Zaha Hadid and Nigel Coates, two of world’s most influential architects. Having gone on to open the highly successful Ron Arad Associates in 1989, Arad has subsequently become a lecturer at the Royal College of Art London. Arad is central to contemporary design. His work has been exhibited at numerous galleries and museums worldwide and exists as an exemplary creative in some of the greatest public collections in the world. Ron Arad is simultaneously an industrial designer, ground breaking creative entrepreneur and businessman of the arts. His distinctive works, mainly a fusion between art and conceptual furniture are often of a monumental stature but most significantly, they are recognized and revered worldwide. Arad himself professes that they are signature works and not just furniture in the functional sense but artworks in their own right regarded as seat objects. Labour intensive and totally unique, Arad’s works stands as a personal sense of self-expression and an internationally acclaimed tour de force in furniture and art construction. Ron Arad’s constant experimentation with the possibilities of technology and materials such as steel, aluminium or polyamide and his radical reconception of the form and structure of furniture have put him at the forefront of contemporary design.
