In 1988, he left for New York to pursue a master of fine arts degree under the supervision of Luis Camnitzer, a pioneer of 1960s Conceptualism movement. Uribe’s passion to study art took him to Russia, Cuba, Mexico, England and finally, to Miami where he resides and work now. Federico Uribe is a conceptual artist, whose artworks not only signifies to the language of pop art, but have a formal reference to the history and tradition of classical art as well. Through the juxtaposition of everyday objects and ideas in a radical manner, his artworks are laden with surprise, irony, humour and beauty. Through his art, Uribe enables the viewer to take a more in-depth observation at the beauty that surrounds our world and to reassess them in a much different perspective. Uribe creates sculptures that are not sculpted but constructed and weaved in all kinds of different ways , curious , unpredictable, repetitive and almost compulsive. Uribe’s works follow the classical canons of figurative and abstract art but the result is absolutely whimsical yet contains enormous efficacy and communicability. He takes on a subject matter and presents it in a comical historical display of ordinary items which now formed into the definitive style of Uribe.
