Chloe’s Drew Bag – The Next “It Bag”

Back in 1952, the Parisian fashion house Chloé changed the fashion game. The founder, Gaby Aghion, challenged the standard by introducing the first-ever line of high-fashion ready-to-wear garments. And she called it “luxury prêt-à-porter”. Since then, haute couture made-to-measure pieces have become the exception and Chloé has become a dominant global luxury fashion brand. Through the creative direction of some of the top designers in recent history, including Karl Lagerfeld, Martine Sitbon, and Stella McCartney. Thus, the brand has established itself as a leader in the fashion world with its youthful, feminine, bohemian appeal.

However, it was not until the early 2000s when McCartney named her assistant, Phoebe Philo. The brand branched out into handbags, shoes and other small leather goods due to the new creative director. With Philo behind the helm, Chloé spearheaded the “It Bag” scene with the Paddington. The company once again made fashion history in 2005. Which is the first 8,000 of this oversized, slouchy, soft leather handbag flaunting a chunky padlock sold out before even making it to boutique shelves? In 2008 the Paraty received just as much attention and adoration. Together with its understated, triangular shape and thick leather piping, also selling out well before arriving in stores. Today the brand is headed by Clare Waight Keller. Under her direction, Chloé has released what is shaping up to be the must-have handbag of the year: the Drew. After promoting the bag on the market for the past couple of seasons, the fashion house has recently made a notable effort to push for “It Bag” status. This romantic, sophisticated reinvention of the saddle bag was seen all over New York, Paris, London, and Milan fashion weeks with its bar-and-loop closure evoking the spirit of the Paddington’s iconic padlock. There are front-row worthy fashion editors such as Caroline Issa and Yasmin Sewell. They are touting the Drew as well as trend setting bloggers like Chiara Ferragni, Olivia Palermo, and Aimee Song. Other celebrities including Beyoncé, Blake Lively, and Reese Witherspoon also spotted with the handbag.

With Drew’s classic appeal and versatile day-to-night transition, attaining such heights seems only natural. The rounded silhouette harks back to the brand’s bohemian heritage. Also, the squared flap and minimalist design incorporate a more masculine edge into the brand’s feminine, free-spirited look. It features gold-tone plated metal hardware, textured leather. Also, it is lighter in weight when comparing to previous Chloé “It handbags-accessories.”. It comes with a metallic chain strap in mini and small. The medium size has a leather strap. And it will convert into a satchel with the additional detail of a top handle.

Like all cult-status bags, it is available in a wide range of colors from classic black to racy leopard prints to quintessential Chloé peachy hues to bold and unexpected color blocking combinations. It is also available as a pouch, clutch, and wallet. Prices range from HK$4, 160 for a wallet through to HK$21, 530 for the python leather small bag at Lane Crawford. With all “It handbags-accessories”, the Drew is in limited supply so getting your hands one may prove to be quite the challenge.
