The Grand Entrance: Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear Rolls Royce is royalty, big money, and flashy events. Over the years big names such as Queen Elizabeth II among other mega tycoons have been rolling with the Royce. Forget about the flattery from models such as Chrysler 300 that has been trying to steal the spotlight from the Rolls Royce. The Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII brings a whole new vibe to the Phantom Gen. It’s the second car to be produced under the ownership of BMW after the first release in 2003 which has graced our roads until 2011.

The Rolls Royce Phantom VIII will be the first in the series to be constructed on the bespoke aluminum spaceframe. It has taken six years for the teams to re-engineer and redesign the car from scratch to a masterpiece. Giles Taylor, Rolls-Royce’s design director, designed the car to appear as if it was surging forward with Spirit of Ecstasy mascot catapults forward. However, the Phantom VIII is a few inches shorter than the model it is replacing.

The first thing you notice when you look at the Phantom VIII is the smooth transition of design. Although the car is highly designed using aluminum, it is stiff, lighter and 30% rigid than the previous version. The front view of the car is more imposing compared to its predecessors with a wider and taller grille. The doors apertures are slightly extended to give more headroom.

The technology

There is nothing more breathtaking than a classic fusion of elegant designs and state of the art technology. Philip Koehn, Rolls-Royce’s chief engineer, called the Phantom VIII the ‘Architecture of Luxury’. The technology behind this road will inspire ultimate stability and comfort. The car is fitted with sound-absorbing materials which make it one of the most silent cars; when the car is rolling at 60 mph, the noise rate is 10% lower compared to its predecessors. The car is designed with 130kg of insulation material which is quite brilliant.

The digitalized dashboard which is also known as ‘The Gallery’ is magnificent. Chrome frames surround the digital dials, and sturdy glass panels cover all the display elements. However, the analogue clock continues the Rolls-Royce. There are complex camera systems which automatically adjusts the suspension of the car.

The engine

The Phantom VIII is powered by a 6.75-litre V12 that can produce 563bhp at 5000rpm. However, this baby has an additional power from twin turbochargers. The engine uses an eight-speed automatic gearbox which is helped by the satellite to drive the car’s rear wheels. The car reaches a top speed of 155mph and the acceleration speed of 0- 62mph within 5.3sec.

Rolls-Royce has been a true definition of power and wealth. However, the Phantom VIII has changed the game to a whole new level. The Phantom VIII is like a statement car to show off human intelligence and creativity. The unique interior design is a clear indication of how the royal and mighty ball.
