Zachys 2015 Hong Kong Final Auction Realizes Over US$4.6 Million

The final Zachys of the 2015 Hong Kong season, Finest and Rarest Wines and Spirits, Featuring Immaculate Bordeaux from the Chairman’s Collection – Part II realized HK$35,384,248/ US$4,565,709 closing out the year in Hong Kong with a bang. Also, the Zachys team welcomed a packed room at the JW Marriott for bidding. Together with a tasting of fine wines and spirits, and a catered lunch. Six hours and over 1,000 lots later, Zachys wound up the year with HK$146 million/ US$18.8 million realized in 2015, HK$374 million/ US$48.3 million including the US sales. And there is one New York live sale and two auctions still to come!

Zachys Featuring BORDEAUX AND BURGUNDY REIGN!

Bordeaux and Burgundy were top earners once again, realizing more than 80% of the auction total. A rare magnum of Romanée-Conti from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 1990 was the top lot of the auction. And it sells for HK$355,250/ US$45,839, in excess of its high estimate. Also, the star lot of Bordeaux in this auction was Pétrus 2000 (12 bottles with original wood case). And it was sold for HK$343,000/ US$44,258. In addition, other notable highlights were Pétrus 1989 (12 bottles) sold at HK$269,500/ US$34,774, Pétrus 1998 (12 bottles) fetched HK$245,000/ US$31,613 and Château Lafite Rothschild 1982 (12 bottles) sold for HK$232,750/ US$30,032.

Once again, Zachys has proven to be the place to consign rare spirits. With over 200 lavishly-illustrated bottles gracing the second half of the catalog, Zachys continues to bring new and diversified offerings to an ever-expanding bidder base. Yet, the Japanese whiskeys of Karuizawa were highly sought after from private Hong Kong and Chinese collectors alike. Karuizawa Samurai 30-Year-Old Cask (5 bottles with original wood case) sold at HK$183,750/ US$23,710.

Also, Karuizawa Sumo Single Cask (3 bottles with original presentation case) fetched HK$122,500/ US$15,806. Karuizawa Geisha Single Cask (2 bottles with original gift box) sold at HK$116,375/ US$15,016. Pappy Van Winkle found a bidder in the Far East, and rare bottles of Scotch all found buyers. Where Pappy Van Winkle was a classic American spirit.
