Andy Warhol: Skateboard Triptych Gold Marilyn Monroe

US$2,000.00

Warhol began his _Death and Disaster_ series with the work _Gold Marilyn Monroe_-which is in the MoMA collection-in 1962, shortly after the screen siren's death. Based on a 1953 publicity still for the film _Niagara_, it marked the beginning of Andy Warhol's practice of generating imagery for his painting from photographs transferred onto silk-screens. For Warhol, silk-screening was crucial to the image's reproducibility, and his art was a mirror of his times, which is reflected in the mass media images he used in his art to confront aspects of life and death in American culture. This triptych of hand-numbered skateboard decks comes in a limited edition of 100, each in its own special gift box. Hanging wall mounts included.

The skateboards are made in collaboration with The Skateroom, a platform for promoting, selling and producing art on skateboards that supports youth-empowerment and development. Proceeds from this project will benefit Skateistan, an award-winning, international NGO with projects in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa. Skateistan is the first international development initiative to combine skateboarding with educational outcomes.
