The Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, speaks to the powerful rejuvenating qualities of walking in nature. Its primary objective is an accessible path to wellness through sensory immersion. Perfumer Yann Vasnier and ceramicist Amir Smolnik developed "Arashiyama" to bring nature indoors through a perfume-dipped ceramic vessel. Vasnier traveled Kyoto to collect a molecular sample of the atmosphere within a bamboo forest, and picking up on its soft smells after a rainy April, he recognized notes of green leaves, damp soil, anise and vanilla. When the oil he created is added to Smolnik's ceramic vessel, which resembles Japanese bamboo, the pleasing scent of a Kyoto forest emerges.
