Mercedes-Benz W196R #22 Hermann 1954 Reims GP

US$360.00

Mercedes-Benz took a brief hiatus from racing following World War II but returned in 1954 for the start of the 41st French Grand Prix. There were high expectations on all accounts so Mercedes-Benz had done their due diligence and spared no expense to ensure that they would be well-prepared. On July 4th in Reims, the new Mercedes-Benz racers were introduced and caused a sensation on the triangular circuit. The ultra modern, elegant, streamlined bodies of the Mercedes-Benz W196R were a departure from the traditional race car design, amazing their competition as well as the 300,000 spectators. Mercedes-Benz entered three of these Silver Arrows with drivers Juan Manuel Fangio, Karl Kling and Hans Herrmann. Excitement was in the air and the race was off to a thrilling start–Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, and Ferrari all competing for front rank. Fangio (starting number 18) and Kling (starting number 20) quickly took the lead and Hans Herrmann (starting number 22) reached third place by lap seven, posting the fastest lap of the day at an average speed of 195.463 km/hr. Unfortunately, his will to win demanded to much of his engine and his car gave out on lap 17. Fangio and Kling achieved a razor close 1-2 finish for Mercedes-Benz. What an electrifying finish and impressive comeback for Mercedes-Benz!

Inspired by the original and meticulously crafted, any motor racing fan will appreciate this CMC Mercedes-Benz W196R Streamliner #22. Limited edition of 1,000 units worldwide.
