* This beautiful, rare fossil dugong (sea cow) skull cap was found in Charleston County, South Carolina, USA. Age: Oligocene Epoch - 34 to 23 million years ago.
* The skull cap measures 13.5 cm (5.3 inches) in length x 8.5 cm (3.3 inches) in width. Weighs 492 grams (1.08 pounds).
* Dugongs are Sirenians, the group of herbivorous aquatic mammals that includes manatees. Male dugongs have a single incisor tooth on each side of the upper jaw that becomes a notable tusk. This interesting fossil was collected by diving in a river.
