And so the DB4GT Zagato was born from an attempt to usurp Ferrari. The original Aston Martin DB4 could not stand a chance, so Aston Marin approached Zagato, the famous Italian coachbuilder. The result was a new iconic design vocabulary: a lengthened nose, a more pronounced grille, softer styling, and a lighter and faster car. Unfortunately, the face-lift was not enough to satisfy Aston Martin’s hopes for a race-wining, Ferrari-beating GT. At the 1961 24 Hours of Le Mans, both Aston Martin DB4GT entries retired early from the race. Nonetheless, the DB4GT Zagato is remembered as a GT race car with elegant pedigree, combining beauty, rarity, and sport.
